152(!) allergens to consider in detergent declarations!
On July 27th, an amendment to the cosmetics regulation was published. This amendment expands the list of the 26 (24) well-known allergens to 82 allergenic entries. Besides numerous new entries, there are sometimes multiple CAS numbers associated with one entry, which brings the total number of allergenic substances on the list to 152 (!).
The expansion of the list not only affects the labeling requirements for cosmetics but also refers to the list of allergens for detergent declarations in the detergent regulation. Therefore, the extension of the allergens list from the cosmetics regulation will also bring a change for detergents.
For cosmetics, the transition period for new products is 3 years, and 5 years for products already on the market. Since the legislation applies to cosmetics, there is, of course, no mention of a transition period for detergents.
Whether there will be a transition period for detergents is not yet known. We expect that the European Commission will provide additional information about the transition period for detergents.
We will keep an eye on it to inform you as soon as possible!
